This venue is a great one for downtown Pittsburgh wedding receptions, because the space has a lot to offer! I’d love to share with you some of my favorite things about this venue!
PPG Wintergarden weddings Location
Located at 1 PPG Plaza, Pittsburgh PA – the Wintergarden at PPG Place is right in the heart of Downtown Pittsburgh. It’s within walking distance of multiple hotels for your wedding guests, and lots of nearby restaurants and things to do. I would recommend that you look into the Fairmont Hotel, Embassy Suites, or the Omni William Penn for guest lodging!
Wedding Cocktail Hour at PPG Wintergarden
Cocktail Hour and receptions at PPG Wintergarden weddings can be in slightly separate spaces. This is great if you want your photographer to get all of your details untouched! The spaces are typically separated by boxwood plants or walls, with the cocktail hour taking place on the main entrance side of the hall. There is a large bar in this space, and a TV where you can play some of your favorite photos.
I have seen lots of cookie tables set up on the wall opposite of the bar, and guests have plenty of room to mingle in the cocktail hour space. Wedding receptions here also have the option of passed or buffet cocktail hour food.
Wedding Receptions at PPG Wintergarden
The reception space at the Wintergarden is very large! I have photographed weddings in this space that have over 200 guests, with ample room for a dance floor, DJ, and head table.
The reception venue has a few long stairs that lead to a raised area of the room – perfect for a head table, sweetheart table, or a wedding ceremony!!
The dance floor is typically placed at the bottom of these stairs, with the guest tables surrounding the dance floor and the kitchen access in the rear of the room.
The wedding couple enters from the cocktail hour space for their grand entrance, and then guests can watch toasts and dances easily from their reception tables.
Brides and Grooms can dance the night away at their PPG Wintergarden reception under the city lights that enter through the all-glass walls and ceiling! I love this feature of the space, and I really feel that the glass surroundings are what help to make the venue a bit more creative but still classicly “Pittsburgh”.

Where to take your wedding photos for events at the Wintergarden? So many options! Directly across the street I always love photographing my couples in the Gateway Center gardens. They are beautiful! You also have easy access to Point State Park, the nearby city streets, and (of course) PPG Plaza itself! If you’re hosting a winter wedding, a photo by the ice rink is a must!
