If you’re looking for a beautiful location for extended family photos in Sewickley, PA, Sewickley Heights Borough Park is one of my favorite spots. With its rolling fields, wooded trails, and soft golden light, it’s a dream setting for photographing multiple generations together. This gorgeous park gives families the perfect mix of natural beauty and space to relax, laugh, and just enjoy being together — which is exactly what happened during this sweet extended family session.

This extended family photo session at Sewickley Heights Borough Park was just the sweetest! I always say that extended family sessions are a gift for everyone in the family, and this one was a perfect example of why I love them so much.

We had grandparents, parents, and three absolutely adorable kids who were full of energy and smiles. The park was showing off that day — the light was so soft and golden, streaming through the trees and giving everything a warm, happy glow. It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of beautiful light, and Sewickley Heights Borough Park has plenty of it if you know where (and when!) to look.

Why I love photographing at Sewickley Heights Borough Park

This park is such a gem for family photos. There are wide open fields for kids to run and play, quiet wooded paths for a more cozy, natural feel, and just enough variety to keep every background fresh. It’s the kind of place where you can start in a sunlit meadow and end in a shady forest trail — and it all feels effortlessly beautiful.

Plus, the kids love it here. They can explore, collect leaves, or just be silly while I snap away. That’s one of the reasons my extended sessions feel so relaxed — we’re not standing in one spot for an hour telling the kids to “smile.” We move, we laugh, and I let everyone just be themselves.

The best part? It’s easy.

I know getting everyone in the family together for photos can sound like a lot, but I promise I make it simple. I guide you through where to stand, what to do, and when to look my way — but I also step back when the magic is happening naturally. You get a mix of classic portraits and candid moments that tell the story of your family, right now, in this moment in time.

My favorite memories from this session

  • The three littles who kept making each other laugh (and, okay, making me laugh too!)
  • That golden sunlight through the tall grass — it made every photo feel extra dreamy
  • The sweet in-between moments when cousins whispered secrets or grandparents squeezed their grandkids just a little tighter

By the time we wrapped up, everyone was relaxed, happy, and feeling like it was more of an afternoon at the park than a photo shoot — exactly how I like it.

If you’ve been thinking about planning an extended family session at Sewickley Heights Borough Park, I can’t recommend it enough. It’s beautiful, it’s fun, and most importantly, it’s a chance to freeze these fleeting family moments so you can treasure them forever.
