Armstrong Farms
WEDDINGS

Armstrong Farms is a beautiful outdoor, barn wedding venue north of Pittsburgh. They have multiple barns for weddings, including air-conditioned and temperature controlled spaces, which I love! Their property is private and serene. They also have numerous cabins for use by the couples, and this makes it a great all-in-one wedding venue with an outdoor vibe.

WEDDINGS AT ARMSTRONG FARMS

Armstrong Farms has multiple barns for wedding receptions. The first barn I'll focus on is the weddings at Barn at Fieldstone. This is a temperature-controlled barn at the farm that is really popular. It has everything within walking distance at this area.

There is a cottage on site, called the Fieldstone Farmhouse. This is the house where many of my brides stay and get ready for the day. The farmhouse has a kitchen and dining space, and often the dining area is used for the makeup area as well. There is also a small living room on the main floor. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms and a bathroom. Many of my brides have got into their wedding dress in one of the bedrooms, as there's enough space for a bride, helper, and photographed in this area. After the bride is ready, we will sometimes do bridal party photos around the Fieldstone Farmhouse before heading right across the parking lot to the main barn.

Ceremonies at Fieldstone Barn take place on the large, flat lawn directly behind the barn. There is plenty of space for a large setup, and a group of trees and shrubs that typically act as the backdrop for the ceremony. Some of my couples have brought in additional flowers or wedding arches to tie in more of their wedding style. The bride enters into the ceremony space from a lower door in the barn. Just inside of this door (basement area of the barn) is a bridal holding room, so the bride can be hidden away from prying eyes of guests or the groom! The wedding ceremonies typically have pretty light in the afternoon hours with the direction of the sun.

Cocktail hour at Fieldstone Barn takes place on the lower level of the barn, which is also finished and open for guests. If the weather is nice, guests usually liekt o mill around both inside and outside of this space for fresh air and scenery.

During cocktail hour, I'm usually working with the couple, family, and wedding party to photograph all of their portraits. I like to do family photos on the lawn space with the barn behind, as this is a great simple backdrop and makes movement for less-mobile family members very easy. For couple's photos, we will do portraits in the back lawn, but then also adventure to the tree-lined entrance driveway and other spots. I like the driveway because it's really long, gets good light, and also has some pretty trees to add visual interest. The area around the side of Fieldstone Barn always has well-maintained trees and flowers, and then the upper outdoor patio and porch area adds more of a 'barn' type of feel to the gallery. No need to drive anywhere - there is lots within walking distance while cocktail hour takes place!

After photos and cocktail hour, the remaining portion fo the day takes place on the upper level of Fieldstone Barn, with a dance floor, room for tables, lots of lights, restrooms, and cookie table area. The cookie table is typically placed next to the dance floor, and the bar is in this location as well. The DJ is usually by the dance floor as well. Many of my couples do a sweetheart table, which is placed near to the dance floor and then moved later in the evening. Guests like access to two sets of doors that lead to the outdoor balcony area.

Fieldstone Barn

Armstrong Farm's second barn wedding venue is Westminster Preserve. This barn is another beautiful area with all-in-one services. There is a lake at Westminster Preserve that typically serves as the ceremony backdrop, so if you want this style - go Westminster!

Westminster Preserve has lodging that includes Bonnie House, which I absolutely love. This house is larger than the one at Fieldstone and feels just a little more open. I love the deck that wraps around as well.  This is usually where my bride will get ready for Westminster Preserve weddings. Next to the Bonnie House, the groom has an option to stay at the Love Cottage. This is great, because then both bride and groom can all by nearby to the ceremony site!

As I mentioned previously, the ceremonies at Westminster Preserve typically take place in front of the lake, so you can have some beautiful water scenery for your backdrop. There is a little gazebo in this area, too, and it's fairly easy for guests to walk to their seats on the open lawn.

Following the ceremonies, I often take my couples for photos at the lake, by the barn, or on the main driveway entrance. Sometimes there is a cute truck for us to use as a backdrop for photos while guests enjoy cocktail hour inside of the barn or on the front lawn.

The reception space at Westminster is slightly different, in that it takes place on the main-floor barn with a large open door. At last I checked, this barn is not temperature controlled, but the large door offers a nice cross-breeze in the hotter months.

Westminster Preserve has such a beautiful ceremony space by Love Pond. I love this background for wedding ceremonies - it photographs beautifully and is very unique to the barn venues!

IS THERE LODGING AT ARMSTRONG FARMS FOR WEDDING-WEEKEND STAYS?

Yes - both Fieldstone and Westminster Preserve offer lodging, which is often used by the wedding couple and their direct wedding party.

Fieldstone Farmhouse is available at Fieldstone wedding reception venue site, and is often the location where my brides will get ready on their wedding days.

Westminster Preserve offers both Bonnie House and Love Cottage, which is nice because both the bride and the groom can have getting ready space on the barn site.

There are also at least two additional cottages on-site that are available, and some of my grooms use these spaces for the start of their wedding days.

What is the rain plan for a wedding at Armstrong Farms?

WHAT IS THE RAIN PLAN FOR A WEDDING AT ARMSTRONG FARMS?

This is certainly a valid concern for Pittsburgh brides! The important thing to know is that Armstrong Farm is managed by highly-capable wedding coordinators, and they have seen it all!

Fieldstone Barn hosts wedding ceremonies in the lower level of the barn. I have photographed ceremonies here and they have a rustic feel with twinkle lights. Fieldstone is also great with it's large covered porch, because guests can mingle outside while still staying dry.
